Liensberger Saga Ends With Two-Year Rossignol Contract

The Austrian Ski Federation (OSV) announced on Friday that women’s technical specialist Katharina Liensberger has agreed to terms with Rossignol and has signed a two-year deal to represent the brand on the World Cup.

Liensberger had until today to sign a contract or be barred from competing on the World Cup this season after the 22-year-old signed a ski deal with Kastle skis this off season but was not able to find a boot company in the Austrian equipment pool willing to supply her only with boots. Liensberger did not start in Soelden as the 12th ranked giant slalom skier in the world because a deal could not be reached.

“I am an Austrian ski racer with great enthusiasm,” Liensberger said in a statement on Friday. “All the more it was and is important for me to do everything in order to ski fast and thus constantly optimize all conditions. Unfortunately, a decision in the spring had far-reaching unpleasant consequences. Now I am enriched by some experiences and I can finally concentrate on the essentials: training and racing! I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and above all for those who helped me to solve this tricky situation.”

Liensberger returned to training with the Austrian team this week and is set to start the World Cup slalom opener later this month in Levi, Finland.

“We are pleased that Katharina can now concentrate fully on the sport again,” added OSV Sport Director Toni Gieger. “She has missed important training sessions in the last few weeks and will therefore need some time to catch up on her training backlog, and it will take a few weeks to get her Rossignol gear tuned to her. From our side, we will give her the full support, so she can quickly play her full potential again.”
