Stefan Luitz is out for several weeks with a back injury. He has been experiencing problems with a herniated disc since October, but the actions he has taken so far to recover from the injury have not been effective. The German athlete is undergoing a surgery today. Unfortunately for Luitz, this means he will not be racing World Cups in the coming weeks.
Despite the injury, Luitz was able to secure a 17th-place result in the Soelden GS. However, recovery from this surgery puts his participation in the Olympics in jeopardy, especially with his goal to come back pain-free and healthy.
“Unfortunately another setback for me,” he wrote on Instagram. “After my back problems, which I have been carrying around with me since the beginning of October, have not gotten better despite the ski break and rehab therapy and as a result I cannot train pain-free, let alone ski competitively, I unfortunately have to undergo an operation. A herniated disc was diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage, which is why I will have an operation tomorrow and will be absent for the next few weeks.”
