Who is skiing, when and how to watch Friday’s Madonna di Campiglio Night SL
Get ready for the adrenaline-packed night spectacle as the Men’s World Cup Slalom circuit descends upon Madonna di Campiglio on December 22nd. With only one slalom race so far this season in Gurgl, Austria, and Val d’Isere facing cancellation due to weather, the anticipation is soaring for this iconic event. Last year’s night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio saw Switzerland’s Daniel Yule clinching the top spot, followed by Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen in second and Germany’s Linus Strasser securing third. Notably, recent Gurgl winner Manuel Feller from Austria finished 5th in the 2022 Madonna di Campiglio.
Madonna di Campiglio’s night slalom is a standout race, with Yule having conquered it three times before. The 3Tre, celebrating its 70th year, stands as one of the longest-running White Circus competitions, making it a must-watch on the World Cup calendar. The event’s name, derived from the international triptych of races (downhill, special slalom, and giant slalom), has been a fixture since 1967 in this picturesque Italian location.
The Canalone Miramonti slope, known for its spectacular slaloms, has witnessed the triumphs of skiing legends like Ingemar Stenmark, Gustav Thoeni, Alberto Tomba, Bode Miller, Giorgio Rocca, and Marcel Hirscher. Madonna di Campiglio, nestled in the Dolomite mountains, sets the stage for not just a competition but a vibrant celebration. As the race unfolds on the challenging slopes, the town comes alive with the joy of fans, offering a unique thrill for both spectators and skiers alike. The 3Tre is not just an event; it’s a party that promises intense emotions and unforgettable moments on the snow-covered race venue of champions. About Madona di Campiglio
Nestled in a breathtaking valley between the stunning Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello-Presanella glaciers, Madonna di Campiglio has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. Giovanbattista Righi, played a pivotal role in launching Madonna di Campiglio onto the tourism scene. In 1868, Righi acquired the entire ex-monastery of St. Maria di Campiglio, previously belonging to the Cathedral of Trento, and transformed it into the first hotel in the region. This marked the beginning of Madonna di Campiglio’s journey as a welcoming alpine destination for early tourists.
