The FIS has canceled the 2016 men’s Lake Louise Alpine Ski World Cup after two previously delayed snow control dates, marking the first time in 29 years that a Lake Louise World Cup race has been canceled at snow control. FIS Race Director Hannes Trinkl and Lake Louise Chief of Race Darrell MacLachlan reviewed all possible scenarios, but ultimately determined that weather conditions prevented the preparation of the race track to World Cup requirements leaving no other option than to cancel the scheduled World Cup downhill and super-G races for Nov. 26-27.

“While we have good snow conditions on the upper mountain, we didn’t have enough cold to get to the finish line for the men,” said Brian Lynam, race chairman of the Lake Louise Alpine Ski World Cup. “We will continue our efforts for successful races for the ladies and look forward to the men returning next year.”

The men’s races will likely be rescheduled, though potential venues and dates have yet to be determined. The women’s World Cup downhills and super-G scheduled Dec. 2-4 will be subject to snow control on Nov. 18, and officials are hoping that the more favorable weather forecast will help them through.

The men’s Beaver Creek World Cup will undergo snow control on Friday as well. Weather has been unseasonably warm there during November. While temperatures are dropping and a storm is forecast to hit the venue on Thursday and Friday this week, temperatures may rise again over the weekend.
