On Saturday, June 20, the ski racing couple, Switzerland’s all-rounder Michelle Gisin and Italian giant slalom specialist Luca De Aliprandini, celebrated their wedding day with a magical ceremony near their lakeside home in Riva del Garda.

A Lake Garda love story 12 years in the making

The pair first crossed paths in 2014 during a summer training camp with their respective teams in Ushuaia, Argentina.

After four years of long-distance dating, they moved into a house together in Riva del Garda, the location where they exchanged their vows this week.

Two years ago, in 2024, De Aliprandini proposed to Gisin near the same lakeside setting that would later host their wedding ceremony.

Lake Garda has become a constant throughout their relationship, serving as the backdrop for both their engagement and now their wedding day.

A celebration after challenging seasons

This weekend wasn’t only a celebration of their life together. It also came at an important moment following challenging seasons for both athletes.

The two-time Olympic champion Michelle Gisin missed the entire 2025/26 season after sustaining a neck injury while training in St. Moritz in December.

It is unclear if and when Gisin will return to competitive ski racing action.

De Aliprandini’s season featured his usual top-30 consistency, but he missed out on a spot at the World Cup Finals for the first time in 10 years and scored World Cup points on only four occasions.

Despite those setbacks, the pair remain among the most accomplished ski racers of their generation. Gisin owns two Olympic gold medals and 21 World Cup podiums, while De Aliprandini won giant slalom silver at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Fellow ski stars join the celebration

Fellow ski racers in attendance included former Austrian world champion Anna Veith, 2022 Swedish Olympic giant slalom champion Sara Hector, reigning World Cup slalom champion Atle Lie McGrath of Norway and German all-round star Emma Aicher.

According to Italian media, Gisin and De Aliprandini will continue the celebrations by heading to London for their honeymoon with plans to enjoy Wimbledon, which gets underway on June 29.

Ski Racing Media wishes the happy couple all the best.
