Swiss Star Corinne Suter Injured in Training Wednesday
Reigning Olympic downhill champion Corinne Suter fell during downhill training in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Wednesday and sustained several injuries. She becomes the second top Swiss racer sidelined in the past two weeks.
“Examinations at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich revealed a torn muscle fiber in her left lower leg, a contusion of her left knee, and a non-displaced fracture in her right hindfoot,” Swiss Ski announced in a news release Thursday.
Surgery is not necessary, but Swiss Ski said it will take about a month for the injuries to heal enough for Suter to return to snow.
Second Loss
Two weeks ago, teammate Lara Gut-Behrami was injured during ski training in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Gut-Behrami, who planned for 2026 to be her final season after a long and impressive career, will miss the rest of the winter and the Milan-Cortina Olympics.
Suter won the 2022 Olympic downhill gold after strong skiing on the 2,704-meter course designed by Bernhard Russi for the Beijing Games. She said she watched videos of her idol Lindsey Vonn as part of her preparation.
Suter and Vonn are among the few alpine skiers who have captured both Olympic and World Championship titles in downhill. Suter won the World Championship downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2021 — the same venue for the 2026 Olympic downhill. Vonn won her Olympic downhill gold in 2010 at Whistler Creekside and captured downhill and super-G World Championship titles in Val d’Isère in 2009.
Ski Racing Media wishes Corinne Suter a swift and complete recovery.
