In Loving Memory of Trevor Wagner

A coach, mentor, and cherished member of our community has passed away.

Trevor Wagner, a dedicated SVSEF U16 coach, passed away after a private battle with illness. Over the past two years, Trevor did everything in his power to be on the hill with our athletes whenever he was well enough, continuing to share his passion and knowledge with unwavering commitment. This was his sixth season coaching the U16 team at SVSEF.

Trevor and his fiancée, Gladys Weidt—our Assistant Alpine Director and fellow U16 coach—moved to our community six years ago. More than anything else, Trevor loved to ski, and he was incredible at it. He dedicated his life to sharing that passion, leaving a lasting impact on the sport of ski racing and the countless athletes he coached around the world.

There is no doubt about the impact Trevor had on the sport. A kid from the Northwest, he spent his final years in our golden mountains here in Sun Valley—something many lifelong skiers dream of, especially those who grew up in our region. But Trevor didn’t just coach here; he reshaped the future of ski racing in the West. He was instrumental in bringing speed skiing back to the forefront in both the Pacific Northwest and the Western Region.

His vision and leadership over the years were key to bringing the World Cup Finals to Sun Valley this past season, marking the return of World Cup speed events to the Western U.S. for the first time since the 2002 Winter Olympics. Alongside Tom “Cowboy” Johnson and our community leaders, he helped design the downhill and super-G tracks, creating a world-class venue worthy of the sport’s biggest stage. In a region with a deep but fading history in speed events, Trevor helped reignite that legacy—leaving behind a blueprint for future generations.

His passion changed the sport for the better and will live on in the athletes, coaches, and friends who were lucky enough to ski with him, work with him, race under him, or witness the events he helped bring to life.

Our hearts are with Gladys, Trevor’s family, and all those who were touched by his life and work. Please share your condolences or memories at 2741 Winterhaven Dr., Hailey, ID 83333, or submit your stories, memories, and photos via email address: tributes.to.trevor@gmail.com.
