Roland Leitinger seriously injured his knee during today’s parallel training on the Reiteralm, according to an Austrian team press release. The runner-up from Soelden tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a fall and will therefore be out for the entire Olympic season.

“That is extremely bitter. Now history repeats itself. I already missed the season in 2018 because of a torn cruciate ligament, ” said Leitinger after the devastating diagnosis. “At the moment I feel a great emptiness. I have to let that sink in for now. “

The 30-year-old giant slalom specialist will have surgery promptly.
