The women will start their Kvitfjell World Cup racing with a Friday super-G. Notably, they will compete on the Olympiabakken slope, the speed venue for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.

After a training block in Norway, Mikaela Shiffrin will return to World Cup racing and the pursuit of her 86th career victory. If she does earn a Kvitfjell victory, she will match the win total of the legendary Ingemar Stenmark.

There have been five women’s World Cup super-Gs contested this season. Notably, there have been five different winners. While two of the five winners are Swiss, USA, Italy and Norway, each has one. The season’s title picture remains unclear, with three super-Gs remaining on the schedule.

North American entries

North American teams have seven women entered. The Stifel US Alpine Team has five starting and Alpine Canada Alpin has two. Five North Americans have scored World Cup points this season and four of them are on tomorrow’s start list. Retiring Canadian Marie-Michele Gagnon is not competing in Kvitfjell.

Mikaela Shiffrin has only raced two of the five 2022-23 women’s super-G races but is planning on competing in both Kvitfjell super-Gs. Shiffrin did win one of the two she raced. Shiffrin also placed second in the super-G at the 2023 Méribel FIS Alpine World Ski Championships on February 8th.
