Mikaela Shiffrin has announced Thursday she will sit out this weekend’s speed races in Val D’Isere, France as she re-evaluates an uncharacteristic 17th-place finish in giant slalom earlier this week in Courchevel.

“Wellllll I wanted to try for @valdisere. I was pretty excited, really-and it would have been the first time that I made that schedule work…but I have to get some work done now, so Merry Christmas and see you in Lienz!” she posted on her social media.

On Tuesday, Shiffrin was perplexed and upset after a sub-par result.

“As always my plan is day-by-day and [Tuesday] forced me to re-evaluate the coming weeks. Gonna take a little pause and skip tomorrow’s downhill training in Val d’isere and go from there,” she posted to her account after the race.

Shiffrin has had a strong start to the season with four straight podiums and two wins. She has also been top three in two out of four speed races. She currently leads the overall women’s World Cup standings by 165 points after 10 of 41 scheduled races.
