June 30th, the ski world is celebrating a new couple: Greek skier AJ Ginnis (29) and Austrian ski crosser Christina Födermayr (23). AJ Ginnis, a former US Ski Team member, has found significant success since beginning to ski for his native country of Greece. Last season, he won the men’s slalom silver at the 2023 World Championship.

“I didn’t expect so many headlines,” Ginnis writes, adding two laughing emojis to his WhatsApp message. Yesterday, the “Kronen Zeitung” and other Austrian media reported on Ginnis and Födermayr’s time together in Vouliagmeni, Greece. This is where the triathletes competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics and where Ginnis is originally from. Födermayr celebrated her 23rd birthday there and spent time together with Ginnis until today.

The Austrian media were cautious in their reporting, describing the couple as “obviously in love.” Ginnis, however, confirmed his relationship with Födermayr to skinews.ch. “Yes, we are together. She celebrated her birthday here and flew home today,” said Ginnis. He had a difficult winter in the 2023/24 season, with only two top-10 finishes (10th in Madonna di Campiglio and 9th in Saalbach) and many challenges, including knee problems and numbness on the left side of his body.

Födermayr has also faced health issues. She injured her knee during her first World Cup podium finish in Arosa, suffering a partial rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament and the left medial ligament. After the season, she underwent hip surgery in March.

Ginnis and Födermayr have been a couple since around December 2023. Meanwhile, Vincent Kriechmayr (32) and former ski racer Michaela Heider (28) have taken their relationship further, getting married four days ago.
