In this episode of the Skiing is Believing podcast, Matt and Alan had the opportunity to chat with the Stifel US Ski Team speed specialist, Tricia Mangan.
Mangan provided an update on the recent training camp for the women’s US speed team held in Copper Mountain, discussing Tricia’s current state as the first race of her season approaches in less than two weeks at Beaver Creek.
Matt then asked about Mangan’s childhood and how she got into ski racing, a path that she described as “alternative.” Her experience was unique, as she developed her skills on a modest hill in Western New York, where the focus on racing during her upbringing was significantly less than that of most competitors on the tour.
Tricia spoke about the psychological aspects of the sport and how she uses different concepts to approach racing and even training. Additionally, on her confidence, Mangan feels she is in a very good position ahead of the final camp before racing begins.
Mangan also commented on the early season success and last season’s top results from many of her American teammates. After having spent just over a week training with Lindsey Vonn, Tricia gave Matt and Alan an inkling of what to expect when the 82-time World Cup winner returns to the tour later this month.
Part one of this episode, Matt and Alan reviewed the first U.S. races of the season at the Stifel Killington Cup last weekend. Sara Hector won the giant slalom, and Camille Rast claimed victory in the slalom.
The Skiing is Believing podcast is into its second season now, providing two episodes a week available on Spotify and YouTube.
