St. Moritz women’s downhill No. 2: start list and North American program

The women’s World Cup speed schedule continues Saturday in St. Moritz with the second downhill of the 2025–26 season and the middle race of three consecutive speed events on Corviglia. With the Olympic year underway, early points remain critical for downhill specialists building momentum toward Cortina.

Friday’s opener immediately reshaped the early-season picture. Injuries have thinned the field, opening the door for athletes deeper on the start list to chase top-30 finishes and World Cup points.

Momentum from Friday’s opener

Friday delivered a strong statement from Austria and a historic performance from the United States. Austria placed four athletes inside the top 10, including two on the podium, underscoring its depth as the St. Moritz speed block opened.

At the top stood Lindsey Vonn, the Stifel U.S. Ski Team star who claimed her 83rd World Cup victory in her first win since returning from retirement. At 41, Vonn also became the oldest woman to win a World Cup race, setting a new benchmark in the sport’s history.

Austria’s Magdalena Egger and Mirjam Puchner completed the podium, while a tightly packed group from fourth through tenth kept the downhill standings wide open heading into Saturday’s second race.
