George Steffey has repeated yesterday’s third-place finish at the Gurgl Europa Cup GS races. Yesterday marked his first EC podium; today’s result is additional validation of his ability.

Steffey finished the first run in seventh place. By also clocking the seventh-fastest time on the second run, Steffey’s combined time put him in 3rd overall.

Yesterday six US and 2 Canadian athletes finished in the top 30 and scored Europa Cup points. Today the same to Americans were North America’s fastest, but they were the only ones to finish in the points. Brian McLaughlin, a former EC GS winner, was 10th after the first run and finished the day in 18th. Unfortunately, McLaughlin made a costly mistake on the second run.

Steffey is in second place in the EC standings, and McLaughlin leaves Obergurgl in 10th. Two other North Americans sit inside the top 30 in the overall standings. The talented Canadian Asher Jordan currently sits in 17th. Patrick Kenney, whom all reports say is skiing fast, has only one result but is currently sitting in 29th.

Both Steffey and McLaughlin have earned starts in the next World Cup GS. The Val d’lsere World Cup race, is scheduled for December 10th. The two athletes will join Tommy Ford and River Radamus, two established USST World Cup racers, for the race in France.
