Austrian technical star Stephanie Brunner suffered a knee injury last Wednesday during giant slalom Training in Ushuaia, Argentina, and was transported back to Austria to determine the extent of injury.

The MRI examination in Innsbruck over the weekend revealed an anterior ligament tear in the left knee. The 25-year-old was then operated on in the Hochrum Clinic by Dr. Christian Fink on Sunday.

“My first turns on snow in July felt really good, as if I had never been away,” Brunner said. “Even in Argentina, everything went according to plan and my fitness and the knee played perfect. All the more disappointing this diagnosis, but I can not change it and take this challenge again.”

This is the third ACL tear for the Austrian. Brunner first tore her ACL at the 2018 Austrian National Championships and then re-injured the knee this January. This is the Austrian’s third serious knee injury in less than two years.

Brunner has one World Cup podium to her name, finishing third in the 2018 Killington GS, highlighting her comeback from her first injury.
