Stowe, Vermont – June 26, 2024 – Mt. Mansfield Academy (MMA), working in partnership with Stowe Mountain Resort (SMR), announces an upgrade to the snowmaking infrastructure that serves the MMA race venues at Spruce Peak. The upgrade includes a new additional pump that aims to deliver early-season snow to the iconic Main Street Race trail, a premier venue that has hosted NCAA Championships and NorAm events. This pump is a welcome addition to Stowe’s already best-in-class snowmaking system. With this initial investment in snowmaking and continued partnership, the athletes will have access to racing terrain at Stowe Mountain Resort earlier than ever. Stowe Mountain Resort will continue to operate and expand terrain as normal, based on conditions and snowmaking temperatures. This investment will not impact the typical opening of other terrain.

This early snowmaking initiative is planned to commence in November, allowing for premier early-season training and racing on one of Vermont’s top race venues. With an early season opening, MMA athletes will receive extended access to a premier training venue known for its challenging terrain and incredible surface.

Shannon Buhler, VP/GM of Stowe Mountain Resort, remarked, “We are thrilled to  continue our longstanding partnership with the Mt. Mansfield Ski Academy. As Vermont’s  highest peak, ski racing is in our DNA and we are excited to help grow the next  generation of ski racers.”

Igor Vanovac, Executive Director of MMA, added, “The increased capacity for early season snowmaking compliments our year-round training program, and we are excited  for the possibility to host early-season races. This partnership represents a significant  milestone for our academy.”

A History of Partnership

For 90 years, the partnership between MMA and SMR has been focused on providing the best possible venue to produce elite ski racers. The construction, maintenance, and exclusive access to The Main Street Race venue is just the most recent manifestation of this long history. With this expanded partnership and enhanced opportunity for its athletes, MMA is poised to continue its 90 year heritage in alpine excellence.

MMA and SMR have had a common journey. Nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains, Stowe Mountain Resort offers an exceptional alpine experience characterized by Vermont’s highest peak, 485 acres of skiable terrain, luxurious accommodations and world-class dining.  The resort’s unwavering commitment to excellence aligns seamlessly with MMA’s mission to foster champions both on and off the slopes.

Igor Vanovac expressed his gratitude, “This partnership with Stowe Mountain Resort would  not be possible without the unwavering support of our generous donors and successful  fundraising efforts. It marks a significant advancement in our commitment to producing top-tier  athletes.”
