Val di Fassa experienced a substantial snowfall in the past 24 hours, resulting in the cancellation of the Women’s World Cup super-G on February 24th. Despite the diligent efforts of the race crews to prepare the course following the snowfall, it was ultimately deemed unsafe for competition.
Before this weekend, only three regular-season World Cup super-G races remained for the women. However, with today’s cancellation, the women will have only two more races to prove themselves before the anticipated World Cup Finals. The crews will continue to clear snow for tomorrow in hopes of getting one day of racing off on the Italian track. Then, the women will move to Kvitfjell, Norway, for the last speed event before the finals.
Lara Gut-Behrami leads the pack in the super-G World Cup Standings, but the competition will continue to remain very close, with Austrian Cornelia Hütter and Italian Federica Brignone only separated by 34 points.
We hope that the women will be able to compete tomorrow in the Val di Fassa World Cup super-G, which is scheduled to start at 11:00 CET.
