Red Bull Alpine Park Canceled After Tragic Death of French Skier

Margot Simond, 18, Dies During Training

French U18 slalom champion Margot Simond died Thursday after a skiing accident during training for the Red Bull Alpine Park in Val d’Isère. She was 18.

Simond was preparing on the Envers de Bellevarde slope shortly before 1 p.m. when the crash occurred. An emergency doctor responded immediately, but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Event Meant to Celebrate Innovation in Skiing

The Red Bull Alpine Park event, created by Olympic champion Clément Noël, was scheduled for this weekend. Noël envisioned a course that combined slalom and freestyle elements in his hometown to share his love for skiing with a broader audience.

The event planned to welcome athletes and fans with races, entertainment, and live music. Organizers canceled the event following the accident.

Community Mourns Loss of Rising Star

Simond represented the future of French alpine skiing. Her energy, determination, and love for the sport earned the respect of coaches, teammates, and competitors. The skiing community across France and beyond now grieves the loss of a bright talent gone far too soon.

The Albertville Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Our thoughts are with Simond’s family, friends, and the entire French ski community.
