Press Release Provided by World Cup Dreams Foundation

New York City, November 12, 2023 — Before the World Cup Dreams Foundation (WCDF) delves into a season of celebrating our nation’s athletes’ success, WCDF is thrilled to announce the launch of its newly formed Career Advancement Program. Last week in New York City, WCDF unveiled this initiative to 30 individuals from various industries, aiming to provide essential mentorship and support to athletes for a successful transition into post-athletic careers.

Identifying and Empowering Emerging Athletes

WCDF is committed to identifying and empowering emerging/elite athletes demonstrating promise and financial need from U16 through the National Team and strives to eliminate barriers created by the cost of sport. Since its establishment in 2005, WCDF’s community has thrived, channeling over $4 million to athletes and extending annual support to over 100 individuals.

Addressing Challenges Beyond cost of sport

At its core, WCDF recognizes athletes’ financial, and mentorship needs, especially as they strive for achievements like the World Cup and Olympic levels. The sacrifices often go unnoticed, and the commitment required can pose significant challenges to an athlete’s post-athletic career. In response, WCDF is actively working to create opportunities for elite athletes, facilitating their transition from professional sports to successful careers.

The WCDF Career Advancement Program

The WCDF Career Advancement Program is designed to spotlight highly motivated athletes and nurture their potential for fulfilling careers beyond competitive sports. This initiative aims to recognize athletes’ invaluable, often overlooked skills, presenting significant challenges as they transition into post-athletic careers.

Key Features of the WCDF Career Advancement Platform:

  1. Mentorship Program: Dedicate 1 hour per Quarter to guide and mentor a WCDF athlete.
  2. Industry Insights Sessions: Host virtual or in-person “lunch and learn” sessions for groups of WCDF athletes, matching their interests with mentors’ fields.
  3. Internship Opportunities: Create off-season (April-June) internships for WCDF athletes, offering practical experience and exposure to various industries.

By fostering mentorship, WCDF aims to create meaningful opportunities for athletes as they embark on new career paths. WCDF is fully prepared to connect qualified athletes with its network of mentors, establishing an influential community of committed individuals with broad experiences and roles.

Acknowledging Support

WCDF extends its gratitude to all supporters, emphasizing the importance of belief and support in this mission to empower athletes beyond their athletic endeavors.
