Wengen picks up super G from Bormio/Lake Louise
Wengen has added a fourth race to the schedule to make up for the super G cancellation in Bormio on Dec. 30. This super-G race was originally scheduled to run in Lake Louise on Nov. 28 but was canceled due to too much snow. It was subsequently rescheduled for Bormio, where it was canceled yet again when race officials deemed it unsafe to run due to warm temperatures.
Originally, Wengen was scheduled to host three races on Jan. 14, 15, and 16: two downhills and one slalom. The super G has been added to the beginning of the series and is now scheduled to run on Thursday, Jan. 13.
If the third time’s the charm and the weather cooperates this time around, this will be just the second time that a World Cup super G will be held in Wengen – the last time being in 1994. Athletes will start just below the Minschkunge and race to the finish area of Innerwengen.
According to reports, the finish arena will be closed to spectators due to a lack of time to prepare, but fans will be able to watch from the slopes of the Jungfrau ski region.
