For more than 30 years, the Big Sky Ski Education Foundation (BSSEF) has been developing champions both on and off the mountain. Based at Big Sky Resort in Montana, BSSEF offers competitive Alpine, Freeride, and Nordic programs that help young athletes grow as competitors, teammates, and leaders while fostering a lifelong passion for skiing.

BSSEF is seeking passionate, knowledgeable, and motivated coaches to join its Alpine coaching staff for the upcoming winter season.

Open Coaching Positions

Assistant U16/FIS Alpine Coaches

Work alongside BSSEF’s Alpine Head Coaches to train athletes competing at the U16 and FIS levels.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advanced gate training
  • Tactical race-course analysis
  • High-speed technical coaching
  • Race-day athlete management and travel support

Ideal candidates:

  • Former US Ski & Snowboard, FIS, or NCAA racers
  • Experienced alpine race coaches
  • Strong understanding of modern race technique and safety protocols
  • Passion for helping athletes reach regional and national success

U10/U12 Alpine Coaches

Help young athletes build the technical foundation necessary for long-term success in ski racing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing fundamental skiing skills
  • Introducing slalom and giant slalom progression
  • Building confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship
  • Creating an engaging and positive learning environment

Ideal candidates:

  • Patient, energetic coaches
  • Strong technical skiing background
  • Ability to balance structured training with fun, age-appropriate activities

Youth Ski League (YSL) Coaches

Introduce the youngest skiers to the excitement of alpine skiing while building lifelong skills and confidence.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching balance, edging, rotary skills, and athletic movement
  • Leading all-mountain exploration
  • Introducing basic racing concepts through games and challenges
  • Creating a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment

Ideal candidates:

  • Energetic and patient mentors
  • Strong skiing ability
  • Passion for working with young children
  • Commitment to safety and athlete development

General Responsibilities

All BSSEF coaches are expected to:

  • Provide safe, positive, and structured on-snow coaching aligned with BSSEF policies and US Ski & Snowboard athlete development models.
  • Attend morning coach meetings and athlete check-ins.
  • Remain with athletes until they have safely returned to their parents or guardians.
  • Communicate daily schedules, training plans, and weather updates through the TeamReach app.
  • Monitor weather conditions and athlete well-being, incorporating warm-up and lodge breaks when appropriate.
  • Represent BSSEF with professionalism, positivity, and outstanding sportsmanship.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • Expert-level skiing ability with the confidence to demonstrate technical skiing on all terrain at Big Sky Resort.
  • US Ski & Snowboard coaching certification (preferred and expected for upper-level race coaching) and/or PSIA-AASI certification.
  • Successful completion of a background check and SafeSport training prior to employment.
  • Excellent communication skills, reliability, professionalism, and a passion for coaching young athletes.
