Ski racer Erik Haket, Jr., 11, of the Dodge Ridge Race Team near Pinecrest, California, was killed accidentally on April 13 while driving an off-road utility vehicle in an unincorporated area of Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Although he was a shy boy, when he joined the Dodge Ridge Race Team he developed independence and confidence as he progressed from the development team to racing as a J4. Teammates remember him as a fierce competitor who consistently helped his fellow racers. Always enthusiastic, he was humble about his racing accomplishments as he continued to improve during the three years on the team.
“Erik was happy Go Lucky kid, he was always laughing and joking with the other kids on the Team – especially the girls,” said Brian Jarrett, Dodge Ridge Race Team Manager. “He was an excellent skier and his favorite questions were: What am I doing wrong? How can I go faster? Erik will really be missed at Dodge Ridge and will leave a big hole in the Dodge Ridge Race Team.”
A terrific kid who loved to ski fast with focus and determination, Erik had a passion for skiing, adventure and the outdoors. You could always count on a big smile from him. He will be deeply missed.
