FIS Approves Prize Money Increase for World Cup Events
Top Alpine Skiers Could See 20% Boost Starting This Season

FIS Council members voted Thursday to increase prize money for all FIS World Cup disciplines by up to 20%, starting with the 2025–26 season. The decision guarantees a 10% raise backed by FIS, while an additional 10% may come voluntarily from Local Organizing Committees. The governing body will now calculate prize money in euros rather than Swiss francs.

Brignone, Shiffrin Lead Women’s Earnings

The 2024 Alpine World Cup season saw Italy’s Federica Brignone lead all women in prize money, earning 679,100 CHF. Mikaela Shiffrin, despite an injury-interrupted season, ranked sixth overall with 219,590 CHF. She led all Stifel U.S. Ski Team women.

Valérie Grenier was the top Canadian woman with 32,500 CHF, ranking 37th.

In total, 18 women earned more than 100,000 CHF in prize money during the season.

Odermatt, Crawford Top Men’s Rankings

Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt again led all men, collecting 725,640 CHF. Canadian standout James Crawford ranked 10th with 170,200 CHF, highlighted by his victory in the Kitzbühel downhill.

Ryan Cochran-Siegle led the Stifel U.S. Ski Team men with 38,250 CHF, placing 40th on the money list.

Sixteen men surpassed the 100,000 CHF mark during the season.

Swiss and Italians Dominate Top Spots

All three top prize money earners on the men’s side were Swiss athletes. On the women’s side, two of the top three were Italian, including overall leader Federica Brignone. One Swiss woman also landed in the top three. Notably, no Austrian athletes made the top three in either list.

More Earnings Potential Ahead

With the approved increase and the switch to euro-based calculations, World Cup athletes stand to benefit from higher payouts in the coming season—especially in marquee events where prize money already draws global attention.

The FIS Council’s decision signals a continued investment in athlete compensation and event value as the sport moves closer to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina.
