A classic women’s World Cup night slalom in Flachau, staged in the heart of Austrian ski racing, brings one of the sport’s most electric atmospheres back into focus. Mikaela Shiffrin remains the defining force in women’s slalom but has recently sustained pressure from Camille Rast. After winning nearly every race this season, Shiffrin was pushed hard in Semmering and then beaten outright by Rast in Kranjska Gora.

A Shiffrin victory in Flachau is still the smart bet, but it is no longer a guarantee. That shift is reflected across the discipline, where seven different athletes from four countries have already earned women’s World Cup slalom podiums this season.

Flachau also features meaningful returns on both sides of the border. The Stifel U.S. Ski Team welcomes back Katie Hensien, adding depth to a U.S. group led by Shiffrin. At the same time, Alpine Canada is bolstered by the return of Ali Nullmeyer, one of the country’s most successful slalom racers, back in World Cup competition after injury recovery.
