Mack Brinke & Ourania Marina Ntouskou, Apex2100
For aspiring ski racers, success requires far more than talent on snow. The demands of training, travel and competition must be balanced with the equally important pursuit of education. In the following reflections, Apex 2100 student-athletes Ourania Marina Ntouskou and Mack Brinke share their personal journeys, the challenges they have faced and the lessons they have learned while pursuing excellence both in the classroom and on the mountain.
Ourania Marina Ntouskou
My name is Ourania Marina Ntouskou, and I am a student-athlete at the International Ski Academy Apex 2100.
I was born in Ioannina, Greece, on Jan. 4, 2008, and I first stepped on skis at the age of 2. I immediately fell in love with skiing, and my passion has continued to grow through endless hours spent in the mountains and thousands of carving turns.
At the age of 12, I made the decision to join Apex 2100 in order to dedicate my life to being a ski racer while following a rigorous education program. Balancing sport and education has shaped my personality and helped me develop skills such as discipline, perseverance and time management that I can apply in all aspects of my life.
Skiing has also given me the opportunity to travel around the world, meet new people and experience different cultures. I have represented Greece at major events, including the European Youth Olympic Festival and the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2025. I was also a member of the Greek pre-Olympic team for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. However, a torn ACL prevented me from achieving final qualification.
Overcoming the injuries I have sustained over the years has been one of the most challenging parts of being an athlete. During rehabilitation, I learned valuable lessons in patience, consistency, mental strength and gratitude. Those experiences helped me grow not only as a skier but also as a person.
I firmly believe that an educated athlete is a better athlete, which is why I dedicate significant time and focus to my studies. My goal is to continue my education at a university that offers outstanding academic and athletic opportunities.
Above all, skiing has given me the discipline to work toward becoming a better version of myself every day.
Mack Brinke
Hello, my name is Mack Brinke, and I am a ski racer from the Netherlands.
I was born in 2009 and got into ski racing at around seven years old. I started skiing indoors in the Netherlands and gradually progressed into a more extensive ski program in Austria as my passion for the sport grew.
At age 14, I realized that I could no longer combine an intensive ski racing program with an IB education back home. That was when I discovered Apex 2100 Ski Academy in Tignes, France.
Joining Apex was one of the most important decisions I have made. The academy has helped me become better in every aspect of my life. I have grown as a student, a ski racer and an individual. Through skiing, strength and conditioning, academics and daily life at the academy, I have developed skills and values that will stay with me long after my racing career.
The supportive environment at Apex has allowed me to pursue my athletic ambitions without sacrificing my education. It has also helped me build stronger relationships, develop greater independence and continue growing both on and off the snow.
That is why I wanted to write about Apex 2100. For me, it is more than a school or a ski academy. It is a place that helps young athletes pursue excellence in sport while preparing for success in life.
Although their paths to Apex 2100 began in different countries, both athletes have discovered the same truth: success is built through discipline, perseverance and a commitment to continuous growth. Their experiences show that the pursuit of excellence extends beyond race results, shaping the character, resilience and perspective that will serve them throughout their lives.
