Former Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy will lead the IOC panel working with organizers of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Killy was appointed Wednesday as chairman of the International Olympic Committee coordination commission for the Sochi Games. He held the same position for the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
''I … intend to set high standards to ensure Sochi delivers fantastic Games and a tremendous sporting legacy for its city, the Krasnodar region and Russia,'' Killy said.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Former Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy will lead the IOC panel working with organizers of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Killy was appointed Wednesday as chairman of the International Olympic Committee coordination commission for the Sochi Games. He held the same position for the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
''Jean-Claude Killy's knowledge of the Olympic Movement makes him the ideal person to guide Sochi as it prepares for the Olympic Winter Games in 2014,'' IOC president Jacques Rogge said in a statement. ''His relevant and recent experience as an outstanding chairman of the Torino 2006 coordination commission will be a great asset for the IOC and for Sochi.''
Killy, winner of three gold medals at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, was co-president of the organizing committee of the 1994 Winter Games in Albertville, France. He has been an IOC member since 1995.
''I … intend to set high standards to ensure Sochi delivers fantastic Games and a tremendous sporting legacy for its city, the Krasnodar region and Russia,'' he said.
Killy and Rogge will travel to Sochi later this month and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The members of the coordination commission will be announced later. The panel's first meeting is expected to be held next year.
The IOC awarded the Olympics to Sochi at its session in Guatemala City in July. It's the first time the Winter Games will be held in Russia.
