Get ready for the thrilling conclusion of the Men’s World Cup Super-G season as we head to Kvitfjell, Norway, on Sunday, February 18th. With just one race left before the top 25 are selected for the finals in Saalbach, Austria, tension among the competitors is high.

Throughout the 2024 season, five super-G races have already taken place, showcasing intense competition and surprises on the courses. The race in Kvitfjell marks the final chance for many skiers to secure their spots in the finals. For those on the edge, every turn counts as they strive to make their mark in the world of alpine skiing.

Among the contenders, the spotlight shines on Marco Odermatt of Switzerland, who leads the season’s title chase with an impressive 121-point lead over Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria. While Odermatt seems poised to clinch the super-G globe again, the mathematical possibility of a comeback from the Austrians Kriechmayr and Raphael Haaser adds excitement to the competition.

This season has seen a diverse mix of winners, with four different athletes claiming victory in the five races held so far. French skiers Cyprien Sarrazin and Nils Allègre have showcased their talent alongside Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt, who has been a dominant force throughout the season.

Speaking of North American contenders, 13 athletes have earned World Cup super-G points this season, the highest among all disciplines. Noteworthy performances include reigning World Champion James “Jack” Crawford’s seventh-place ranking and his past podium finish at Kvitfjell, setting the stage for an exciting showdown on Sunday.

Canadian Stars Jeffrey Read and Cameron Alexander are also ready to shine! Joining forces with reigning World Champion Jack Crawford, Read and Alexander of the Alpine Canada Alpin Ski Team are poised for success. Currently ranked 19th, Jeffrey Read brings determination and skill, while teammate Cameron Alexander’s victory in a Kvitfjell downhill highlights his prowess on the course.

Among the Stifel US Ski Team members, Ryan Cochran-Siegle stands out with two impressive tenth-place finishes in the last two races, solidifying his rank at 20th. His teammates River Radamus and Jared Goldberg are also in contention for a spot in the finals, sitting tied at 24th place with 46 points each.

Needing a significant result to qualify for finals

The other four USA athletes scoring this season in super-G include Stifel US Ski Team’s Bryce Bennett, Sam Morse, Kyle Negomir, and USA independent racer Wiley Maple. With points on the board, they all face the challenge of needing an exceptional race to secure their spots in the Saalbach super-G finals. Despite the tough road ahead, it’s still possible for these athletes to qualify. Notably, none of them have previously made it to the super-G finals, adding to the significance of their current pursuit.

Meanwhile, Alpine Canada Alpin also boasts an additional group of talented skiers, including Riley Seger, Brodie Seger, and Kyle Alexander, who have showcased their potential throughout the season. Brodie Seger notably qualified for the finals last season, highlighting his experience and proven skill. With one podium finish enough to secure an invitation to Saalbach, the stage is set for an intense battle on the slopes of Kvitfjell.

USA Rookie Tristan Lane

Ski Racing Media would like to acknowledge that USA-independent Tristan Lane will be racing his first World Cup. Regardless of the outcome, it is a special day for Lane.
