Due to personal matters and an obligation to his family, newly minted ÖSV President Karl Schmidhofer announced his resignation during a press conference Thursday.

“My son was unexpectedly torn from his previous life by a stroke. As a father, you are concerned about how this will develop and how you can support it. I could never have imagined resigning, but my family help is needed,” Schmidhofer said. “I would like to thank everyone for the good cooperation and the trust they have placed in me, and believe me, the Austrian Ski Association is also excellently positioned for the future.”

Roswitha Stadlober, the senior vice president, will take over his duties on an interim basis. All further steps will be determined at an ÖSV presidium meeting in the coming week. The day-to-day business will be continued by Secretary General Christian Scherer.

Schmidhofer was considered a compromise candidate in the election to succeed Peter Schröcksnadel. Previously, Renate Götschl and Michael Walchhofer had been treated as the most promising candidacies, according to SKINEWS, but without a unanimous majority, Schmidhofer, who was president of the Styrian Association at the time, was proposed and ultimately elected.
