The racers, schedule, and how to watch the Women’s Altenmarkt-Zauchensee World Cup Super-G on Sunday, January 14th.

The first day of super-G in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee was exhilarating, especially for the Austrian fans when Cornelia Huetter put together a superb win and took victory by less than a tenth of a second. Kajsa Vickhoff Lie of Norway and Swiss athlete Lara Gut-Behrami rounded the podium. The women have to fight every race as the competition is too close to hold back.

The podium for the three super-G races in the 2024 season has been a blend of different winners. In the initial race held in St. Moritz, Sofia Goggia secured the first-place position, while Federica Brignone claimed the top spot in Val d’Isère. The recent victory by Heutter on Friday demonstrates that the super-G race is open to anyone who finds every place to gain more speed.

Sofia Goggia had grasped the super-G World Cup title after the first two races, but due to her unfortunate hip check that caused her to DNF on Friday, she has moved into the 4th position on the rankings. Huetter moved into the lead with 230 super-G World Cup points.

Nevertheless, with eight more super-G starts on the horizon, any of the top girls still possess a chance at the super-G title. So, the question stands, who will claim the top spot tomorrow?

Top Five Ranked Super-G Women For The 2023-24 Season

North Americans

Although Mikaela Shiffrin missed the super-G race on Friday and will not be competing tomorrow, she still is the first ranked North American in super-G. She currently is ranked 17th, with 50 super-G WC points. With a lot of racing left, when Shiffrin returns, she could be in contingency for a leaderboard spot.

Alpine Canada Alpin Valérie Grenier currently sits 18th in the World Cup standings. On Friday, Grenier had the strongest showing for North Americans, earning herself an 11th-place finish, her fifth top 15 in super-G. She will be searching for a top-10 finish on this hill, and with her consistently solid skiing, she is in contingency for the podium.

Stifel US Ski Team teammates Jacqueline Wiles and Isabella Wright earned themselves a top-30 result on Friday.

Wiles, the fastest US athlete Friday, achieved the Stifel Bibbo award, moving from bib-47 to 21st place. Unfortunately, she had a tough time finishing in Val d’Isère alongside a handful of other female athletes, so this was her first finish this season. She had the fastest top split of the day and will assess how to carry that speed into the bottom sections tomorrow. Overall, the strong finish on Friday will give her the momentum to push her limits tomorrow for a spot on the leaderboard.

Tricia Mangan showcased impressive speed and skill in the super-G event on Friday, displaying the potential to secure a position within the top 15. She was in 12th place in the 3rd split, but unfortunately, she attempted to push her line, which resulted in her skiing out. She has a second chance at the track and will take full advantage.

Alpine Canada Alpin Britt Richardson kicked out of her first super-G World Cup on Friday. After experiencing the inaugural run, she has a better idea of what to expect, giving her the confidence to send it more tomorrow.

The second round in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee promises to deliver an even greater thrill as the women are well aware of what lies ahead and can now push their limits further.
