The latest episode of the Skiing Is Believing podcast, officially presented by Ski Racing Media, welcomes Stifel U.S. Ski Team Alpine Director Sasha Rearick back to the show.
Following five successful seasons with Apex2100, Rearick has returned to U.S. Ski & Snowboard after five years away, taking on the role of Alpine Director.
In conversation with hosts Alan and Matt, Rearick discusses the differences between being an Alpine Director and a Head Coach, a position he previously held with the U.S. Men’s Team for more than a decade. He explains how his new role focuses on the bigger picture, from coaching personnel and athlete development to the long-term direction of the entire alpine program.
One of Rearick’s first priorities is strengthening the coaching staff, including the appointment of Paul Epstein as Head Coach of the U.S. men’s technical team. He shares why building the right coaching environment will be critical to the team’s future success.
The conversation also explores the current state of the Stifel U.S. Ski Team. Rearick reflects on the women’s program following its first FIS Nations Cup title in more than 40 years and discusses the opportunities ahead for the men’s team, including the exciting depth in slalom, the blend of experience and youth in speed, and the continued development of River Radamus.
To wrap up the episode, Matt asks Rearick how much time he believes is needed to build a successful program and whether former Alpine Director Mark Tilston had enough time to implement his own vision.
