Semmering World Cup races move to Kuehtai

The post-Christmas World Cup technical races for the women originally scheduled in Semmering, Austria, have been canceled by the FIS and relocated to Kuehtai, Austria (a 40 minute drive from Innsbruck).

Despite a lack of snow and temperatures above freezing, the Semmering organizers hoped to retain the slalom race in the series but the request was denied by the FIS.

The Tyrolean village of Kuehtai in Sellraintal has never hosted a World Cup before, but the venue has hosted disabled European Cup races and was involved in the 2012 Youth Olympic Games.

Finding a replacement venue for Semmering over the Christmas week proved challenging for the Austrian Ski Federation, especially considering the lodging requirements for the event. Innsbruck is serving as co-host in order to fulfill the demands on short notice.

The women will race giant slalom on Sunday, Dec. 28 and slalom on Monday, Dec. 29 with the first run starting each day at 10 a.m. local time.
