Stelvio glacier rising like a Phoenix

This summer, there has been no pleasure in reporting the difficulties of glacier training in Europe. Between the lack of snow from last winter and the record summer heat, there hasn’t been a lot of good news. However, we received a video taken on July 28th of a GS skier on Karl Heinz Tschenett’s Stelvio training slope. As we have been saying, when glaciers are good, they are good.

Tshenett operates a private Stelvio slope and has continued to offer training. He doesn’t use a lift service but instead transports his clients with snowcats and snowmobiles. This mode of transport limits capacity but allows for significant flexibility. It has become apparent with summers like this one it has allowed him to continue to operate. We offer video proof that even with low snow when it’s good, it’s good. Hopefully, the glaciers will be full of ski racers soon. Watch the video. It is a rare example of good news concerning glacier training in a tough year. This also indicates that when nights are clear the training on Saas-Fee must be good and that Zermatt will be reopening again in the near future. Ski racing on the European glaciers is due to have some cooperative weather.
