Men’s Copper Mountain Super-G
The World Cup speed season opens Thursday with the men’s super-G in Copper Mountain, part of the Stifel Copper Cup presented by United Airlines. It is the first World Cup speed race ever held here, but a hill the world’s best know well from years of early-season training. This time, they race for World Cup points, starting positions, and early Olympic-season momentum.
Swiss strength leads the field
Switzerland arrives with unmatched depth. Marco Odermatt, the 2025 World and World Cup super-G champion, leads a field that includes Swiss teammates Franjo von Allmen and Stefan Rogentin, along with top-ranked contenders Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and Raphael Haaser, Norway’s Fredrik Møller, and Italy’s Dominik Paris. Switzerland placed three of the top four super-G skiers last season.

Kilde’s long-awaited return
The race will also mark the return of Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who last competed in January 2024 after his severe crash in Wengen. One of the most successful super-G skiers of his generation, Kilde stepping into the start gate again would be significant for the sport.
North Americans and British line up
North America brings depth and experience into the season opener.
Canada starts six athletes, and the United States starts seven, including independent racer Wiley Maple. Great Britain fields one athlete.

A defining early-season test
Copper Mountain is a familiar training venue, but racing it at full World Cup pace is entirely different. Add the tight six-race super-G window before the Olympic break, and Thursday’s super-G becomes an immediate, high-pressure benchmark for teams and athletes alike.
The Stifel Copper Cup presented by United Airlines opens this week — and so does the race for the season’s first speed win.
