Dull edges can frustrate skiers, but troubleshooting the basics can often restore sharpness. Ensure the sidewall is planed to expose the edge, replace dull files, and use a 3-degree guide for proper grip. If the edge feels hardened, a coarse diamond file can cut through before finishing with finer tools. For an aggressive finish, a final pass with a hard Arkansas stone might do the trick.

A passionate advocate for avalanche safety, Jimmy’s connection to BRASS stems from the tragic loss of Bryce Astle and Ronnie Berlack in Sölden, Austria—an event that profoundly shaped his commitment to snow safety education. Currently competing on the Europa Cup and NorAm circuits, Jimmy combines his athletic career with his creative pursuits, including his popular podcast featuring top ski racing athletes. “BRASS is filling a critical gap in the sport, and I’m excited to help them in any way that I can,” Jimmy shared.

The Edge Grinding Rubber, or "gummy stone," is one of my most utilized and thought-about pieces of tuning equipment. A gummy stone can be used to remove rust. (But if you use it on your base edge, do so sparingly). Base edges are easily affected and shouldn’t be meddled with). A gummy can also be used to take the spiky-ness off of a particularly bad burr (but a file and diamond stones will do the actual fixing).
Racing independently and preparing for his first World Cup, Sync Team independent Jimmy Krupka aims high with World Racing Academy.
