The 44th Junior World Alpine Ski Championships competition began today, February 27th, with a unique two-run downhill event. Seven North Americans achieve top 15.
American ski racer Ryder Sarchett took home the men’s giant slalom gold medal and the Junior World GS Champion title. The competition was held on the Esserailloux race course at St. Jean d’Aulps resort, a challenging track that saw only 57 finishers out of a field of 152 entered.
The 2024 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships opened on January 30 with the men’s and women’s downhill races, held in Châtel, one of 12 resorts in Portes du Soleil, France. While the weather has been warm and sunny at the lower elevations, Châtel features north-facing slopes at the end of a valley, so the track stayed cold and hard for the speed events.
George Steffey was the top American on the final day of racing.
One American cracks the top 15.
Austrian women swept the podium.
It was a great day for the Americans in Are, Sweden.
The team is led by defending Junior World Downhill Champion Erik Arvidsson.
