Sugar Bowl Academy has a rich history of ski racing. The college preparatory school was founded in 1999 by former U.S. Ski Team member Dr. Patricia Hellman Gibbs (Williams College alumnus). The Academy is the nation’s only ski-in/ski-out facility with groomed runs through campus.
Nestled in Sugar Bowl Resort’s Village, student-athletes benefit from a dedicated race arena and homologated speed training venue. SBA runs a year-round athletic calendar catered to the racer’s ability, physical condition and experience. They also plan camps locally, nationally and internationally to optimize time on snow.
Academically, SBA gives athletes the opportunity to pursue their sport full-time without sacrificing high-quality academics. The courses are aligned to University of California A-G requirements, meet university admission standards throughout the US, and fulfill the NCAA core curriculum requirements for freshman eligibility. SBA teachers are passionate about helping students succeed academically while training full time and work closely with coaches to ensure students receive the support needed for academic success.
Student-athletes have an intensive training schedule designed by the Director of High Performance, with an on-site gym for dryland strength and conditioning, and an EXOS certified Head Chef provides meals designed to give athletes the fuel they need to perform at the highest levels.
