Alpine Canada Alpin has announced the athletes nominated to the Canadian Ski Team for the 2024/25 season, marking a significant step in their Made for Canada Strategic Plan. This plan is dedicated to preparing athletes for the 2026 and 2030 Olympic Winter Games, with a sharp focus on youth development through the introduction of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team (CAST) D tier.

A Strategic Shift

In a surprising move, Alpine Canada will not field a women’s World Cup speed team for the second consecutive season. Despite this, several athletes have been named who are expected to compete in some World Cup speed events. The most shocking development, however, is the decision not to field or support a men’s World Cup tech team this season. Their men’s World Cup tech athletes will compete as independents.

Introduction of CAST D and National Next Gen

To bolster the development of young talent, Alpine Canada is introducing the CAST D team. This new tier focuses on U21 and some U24 athletes who have podium potential, providing them with the opportunity to compete at the Continental Cup level (Nor-Am & Europa Cup) and World Junior Championships. The CAST D initiative stems from Project Excel, a collaborative effort involving Alpine Canada, Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations, athletes, and their families.

“Congratulations to the athletes who have been nominated to the team. They have all put in significant effort on and off the snow to achieve this nomination,” said John Kucera, Men’s Alpine Head Coach. “I am very excited for the introduction of the CAST D Team and look forward to all of our staff working to support the athletes on their journey to the podium.”
