Who is racing, when are they racing, and how to watch

The course is set and the athletes are prepared. Tomorrow will be a battle of Titans. Like all races in Cortina, it will be fast. Consequently, speed makes everything more difficult. It makes both the turns and terrain a more significant challenge. Whoever wins tomorrow will earn it with excellent skiing. They will arc the ski where others can’t, don’t, or won’t

While Switzerland’s Corinne Suter will sit out the race to recover, the field remains stacked with talent. Mikaela Shiffrin won the only super-G she has raced and is only ranked 13th for the season. This means there are a lot of women scoring a lot of points. Hopefully, there will be constant lead changes and close racing. It is also very likely that the home nation, Italians, will have a representative or two on the podium.

Knowing that Shiffrin has been skiing fast during the downhills and has won the only super-G she has skied, it is not too far-fetched to think a podium is a likely possibility. It is never a given, but there isn’t a bad day to increase a victory total.

North American entries

North American teams have eight women entered. The Stifel US Alpine Team has five starting and Alpine Canada Alpin has three. Five North Americans have scored World Cup points this season and are on tomorrow’s start list. US Junior Lauren Macuga, who missed the downhills to participate in the Junior World Alpine Skiing Championships, has arrived in Italy and will race tomorrow.
