For decades during the entire prep period, you could find teams training on the Hintertux glacier. As the climate has changed, this legendary Austrian venue has had to adapt. The top of Hintertux is 10,700 ft above sea level and is currently offering one public ski lane. Unfortunately, they don’t have enough snow to run the surface lifts or provide training lanes. The report from people who skied Hintertux the last week of July revealed that above 9,186 ft, the run has snow. Unfortunately, below that, your only option to access the bottom lift station is to ski directly on the glacial ice.

Keeping crevasses filled with snow is crucial to ski field safety and at the moment, snow is tough to come by. The Hintertux skier we spoke with reports that conditions are extremely challenging at the bottom.
