The Swedish ski team in Finland has been placed into quarantine after a COVID-19 outbreak among its personnel. The team has been isolated by the Finnish government and will not be able to race in Levi. Notably among them is Anna Swenn-Larsson, considered one of the top challengers to Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova this weekend.

“The entire Swedish team and the rest of the staff are quarantined in Finland. It is the Finnish authorities who have made that decision,” said alpine national team manager Tommy Eliasson.

The outbreak was first detected in head coach Christian Thoma on Wednesday, and it had been assumed that the Swedish athletes, who all tested negative, would be able to race. But because these athletes had contact with the coach for more than 15 minutes, the Finnish government stepped in and quarantined the entire group. According to reports, they did not have contact with any other teams.

“They have acted on the basis of the precautionary principle and this decision applies until further notice. It’s about the fact that we had a person who tested positive yesterday. We are currently in contact with infection control in Finland and infection control in Norrbotten to try to find a solution to bring home our staff and our skiers,” Eliasson said.

Sweden’s roster had included: Estelle Alphand, Anna Swenn Larsson, Emelie Wikström, Sara Hector, Charlotta Säfvenberg, Sara Rask, Moa Boström-Mussener, Hanna Aronsson Elfman.
