The racers, schedule, and how to watch the Women’s World Cup Cortina D’Ampezzo super-G on Sunday, January 28th.

The third and final day at the Women’s Cortina D’Ampezzo World Cup will conclude with an exhilarating super-G race.

The last four World Cup super-G events in Cortina were won by four different racers: Lara Gut-Behrami (2018), Mikaela Shiffrin (2019), Elena Curtoni (2022) and Ragnhild Mowinckel (2023). Sadly, Curtoni and Shiffrin are not competing in the Cortina super-G this year due to injury.

Mowinckel of Norway and Gut-Behrami of Switzerland both have a chance to be triumphant on this track again. In the downhill, both of the racers revealed their desire to clinch victory. Mowinckel was able to put together a winning run on the downhill today and will take that momentum into the race tomorrow.

Lara Gut-Behrami fought for the top spot in the downhill, earning 2nd-place on the first day and 5th on the second. This season, Gut-Behrami has been on three out of the four super-G podiums, achieving 1st place in the most recent super-G race in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. She will give it her all tomorrow to achieve a second consecutive super-G victory.

Cornelia Hütter is currently the highest ranked in World Cup super-G. She has finished inside the top-4 in all four World Cup super-G events this season, with one victory, two podiums and a 4th-place result. There is no denying that Hütter’s super-G is currently on fire, but with tight competition, she will still need to push hard to achieve a second 2024 victory.

The Italians, Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone, are two contenders going all-out and pushing their boundaries for podium finishes.

Goggia achieved two podium finishes in the last two days of downhill. She began the 2024 season with a big super-G win in St. Moritz and a podium in Val d’Isère. She struggled in sections of the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee super-G races, but she knows what she needs to do to execute a win tomorrow.

Her teammate Birgnone also won this winter in Val d’Isère. She has nine World Cup super-G wins and will be aiming to step onto the top podium again.

Top Five Ranked Super-G Women for the 2023-24 Season

North Americans

Valérie Grenier achieved her first downhill podium on the Cortina track yesterday, which was a big confidence booster for the Alpine Canada Alpin athlete, especially for her speed events. Besides Mikaela Shiffrin, Grenier is the top-ranked North American in super-G. She has had two top-15 finishes this winter in the discipline and aims to increase her ranking tomorrow.

Stifel US Ski Team member Jacqueline Wiles had a stellar day of downhill, revealing a big comeback for the athlete. Finishing in 2nd place in the downhill was her first podium since 2018. This will ignite confidence for the athlete, which will hopefully propel her onto the leaderboard in super-G.
