Switzerland's Marco Odermatt won his first World Cup downhill Thursday, racing the shortened Wegen course. Today, he ignited the 30,000 spectators with his second. This time, the superstar won from the top start. He delivered three home-country podiums in three days and displayed outstanding athleticism throughout the competitions. Today is his eleventh podium and his seventh victory.
Today belongs to France's Cyprien Sarrazin. He earned his first World Cup super-G podium, a decisive victory. He is also the first French skier in 54 years to win a World Cup speed event in Wengen.

The women's last first run of 2023 was spectacular. The current World Cup discipline leader, Mikaela Shiffrin skied as she has for most of the year, which is inspirational. Although her lifelong rival, Slovakia's Petra Vlhová, skied brilliantly, she could not execute through the most challenging hairpin with the skill of the world's best. Stifel US Ski Team's Shiffrin will ski last again on the second run and poetically close out 2023. Although Shiffrin was only (-0.17) faster than Vlhová, the Slovakian finished the first run (-1.06) faster than third-place Austrian Katharina Liensberger.
It’s a serious step to add downhill to one’s repertoire. Still, for Radamus, who lives in nearby Edwards and grew up racing with Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, it seemed only appropriate for the World Cup’s one-stop at his home hill to be the place for his inaugural downhill race. However, with both downhill races canceled at Beaver Creek due to the weekend's inclement weather, River Radamus’ World Cup downhill debut will have to wait.
Given the increasing crossover between speed and tech, as well as the gap for athletes seeking international race experience who aren’t yet ready to step up to the World Cup, a new women’s team has formed this year, focusing on giant slalom and Super G and competitors on both the Europa Cup and World Cup.
