About Jimmy Krupka

Jimmy was born in Boston, MA. He grew up on the slopes of Cannon Mountain and later Sugarbush--his family moved to Fayston, VT when he started attending the Green Mountain Valley School. He raced for Dartmouth College for a season and spent six years training with the US Ski Team. He is now competing on the World Cup, Europa Cup, and NorAm Cup circuits as an independent with World Racing Academy. On the side, he hosts the popular ski racing podcast, “Arc City.” He enjoys surfing small waves, touting the Northeast, and making silly videos.

Why Your Ski Edges Aren’t Sharp: Troubleshooting and Fixing Them

Dull edges can frustrate skiers, but troubleshooting the basics can often restore sharpness. Ensure the sidewall is planed to expose the edge, replace dull files, and use a 3-degree guide for proper grip. If the edge feels hardened, a coarse diamond file can cut through before finishing with finer tools. For an aggressive finish, a final pass with a hard Arkansas stone might do the trick.

Mastering Ski Edge Tuning with TOKO Wax Room: A Guide to Gummy Stone Techniques

The Edge Grinding Rubber, or "gummy stone," is one of my most utilized and thought-about pieces of tuning equipment. A gummy stone can be used to remove rust. (But if you use it on your base edge, do so sparingly). Base edges are easily affected and shouldn’t be meddled with). A gummy can also be used to take the spiky-ness off of a particularly bad burr (but a file and diamond stones will do the actual fixing).
